ATC Central - The Learning Zone: Walkthough: Portrait in Prismacolor markers and pencil

This Artist Trading Card is based on a photo portait taken by Richard Avedon of Louise Nevelson, a very talented and skilled sculptor. I started off with a pencil sketch based on the photo reference. I then colored the card with base colours using prismacolor markers.
Various colours of prismacolor pencils were used to capture shadows and highlights. I used a colourless blender to smooth out the colour blends and my shading is built up in layers. I based the background on the style of Nevelson's assemblage art.
More shading and highlights with the prismacolor pencils. Unfortunately, sometimes prismas don't blend so well when there is a build up. I know I shouldn't get to a build up but it happens. In this case, I used a matte finishing spray, let it dry, then added a bit more pencil work on top of the finish. Finished off with a micron and gelpen for final highlights.
