    Default New mmh thread?

    Hi there!

A member has asked if there is interest in a new kind of MMH thread:

    OPEN SIZE ART MMH

    This means, you can request:

Dolls (any kind! Paper, fabric, other, articulated or not)
    Charms
    ATC's
    Bookmarks
    Postcards
    Chunky pages/Art journal pages
    Recipe/Tarot/Inspirational/Other cards
Any kind of mail art you card think of!

I find the idea cool, but think we should set a "no larger than" size. I also think we should try and leave the ATCs and USK Tip ins out of it, since those two have their own threads. Instead I would suggest adding fish, hands, kokeshi dolls or maybe arches? What do you think? Do we have enough collectors of "odd" sizes and shapes to start this?

inchies, twinchies and moos too please!

    I think it's a great idea.

There is also a grimoire MMH thread which I wish was more active.

How do we make them fair trades since they're all different sizes??

That's my biggest concern as well. I think there needs to be a few set sizes that more or less correlate with eash other. I am not one to make an issue over a few centimeters here or there.... but there should be an approximate similarity.

I do know that we have quite a lot of members trading for hands and other shapes - would be great to include those as well!

Maybe just adding a "not bigger than" is enough?

I'm totally open to advices! The final decision is yours anyway
Sure, we can put a size limit, like, err, 10 inches? I'm sorry for being such a noob! ^^O

Of course we can add Archs, Moos, Inches and co, hands.... All shapes are welcome, my list was more of an exemple/suggestion.

    I'm sorry I'm not familiar with the all Mail Art glossary yet, btw, what's an USK? ;w;

It could be like the list for the secret exchanges

    one hand
    one arch
    one postcard
    8 inchies
    4 twinchies
    5 moos

like that. you spell out what's equal.

I'm guilty of odd bits of art like these, so I'd probably do a few when I get a chance.
I think guidelines of what pieces would equal what like Cat mentioned would be a good idea though.

Iíve a sickness for postcards, my opinion...one piece of art per mmh thread, it will get too jumbled if you give too many options
open a thread for each one, set a time limit. see which ones get the most hits... if any, then delete appropriately depending on participation

But even the only ATC MMH thread gets VERY quiet. I think multiple shapes is at least worth a try. You could be right odd, it might be a mess! But let's try

I think thats a good idea too. And the delete accordinally idea too.
So when I'm needing some "hand art" or "fish art" etc I can just go jump in.
You could always bump the thread and remind people to get up and make some art!
I'm more into the shapes right now, the hands, fishes, skulls, goddess shape...than I am ATCs right now.

Guess it just goes in phases.
    I'm in a shape phase.

I agree with having a more varied MMH thread.
And yes...list like 4-5 choices. (paperdolls-different shapes etc)
Most of us communicate with whomever we are making for anyway.
So between the two, we can shoot off an email to the other peep and decide
    what works.
I find communication with the other person is also a great way to get to know
someone more. It's more personal. I put more into something when I can communicate.
PLEASE ADD "BOTTLES" to the shapes. I would love a collection of Bottle shapes and sizes. It is endless what can be created. inside and outside of a bottle.

I think the shapes don't need a specific per se. You do need to be able to provide a shape in .pdf form if you want something specific. Wildholly is right - communication is key in a thread like this!

I don't think several separate threads will work on the site atm - there are just too few active members to support multiple threads.

I would suggest the person asking for the claim gives a few preferred shape/size together with a few thematic options. In the starting post, I'll list some different options along with an absolute total size. I would set an appr. total size (length + width) to 10". I hope that covers most shapes..?

I will go start the thread - however I will pass on getting the first piece of art. Instead I would ask the person claiming me to send it to someone else (I already have someone in mind!). I would prefer an admin on top of the thread, for eventual changes to the thread rules!

Let's give it a try! If it doesn't work, we can always change it or modify it

And Oizo - an USK tip in is a piece of art made to fit into an Urban Sketchbook. The size is slightly smaller than a postcard:

Lateish to the party, but could also do an equivalent art section in the starting post if the thread is made?

ex. 1 odd shape = 1 odd shape (hand for fish, arch for arch, etc.)
    2 ATCs = 1 postcard
    2 postcards = 1 8"x10"

    and so on.

Or people who are looking for something certain can add what they want in the bottom?

    "Dog
    Lion
    Sidewalk
    Intestines

Looking for FISH, POSTCARD, or TWINCHIE SET"

    maybe?

This is totally different from the MMH, but what about something like the Traveling Trade?

You could have groups of 5, each group with a theme (like a PAT). Instead of making something for each person in the group, you only make a thing for the next person on the list.

    Like this ...

    Group #1 - Bottles!

    1. Member 1, theme: fish
    2. Member 2, theme: halloween
    3. Member 3, theme: the sky
    4. Member 4, theme: doctor who
    5. Member 5, theme: portraits

Member 1 starts, and makes a halloween themed bottle for Member 2. Mails it to Member 2.
Member 2 makes a sky themed bottle for Member 3 ... you get the idea.

Member 5 is last and makes the fish themed bottle for Member 1.

When it makes its way back to Member 1 the bottle group is finished.

Frankly no one would have to wait to start (because Member 1 might be waiting awhile) and everyone in the group could do their piece simultaneously, but it might get confusing. I dont know. Its an idea.

Its a lot of work, but if it is as popular as Pabkins group is, we would see a lot more activity in the miscellaneous art department.

6 weeks? Is that enough time? Maybe it would depend on the group. Moos wouldnt need as long as a hand I wouldnt think, but then im slow at everything. :p

You could call the groups Circles, cuz thats what they are like.
