    Default Spring Art-a-thon - March 2-5, 2017

    Spring Art-a-thon

Yes, it's the Spring Art-a-thon, and everyone's invited!

This year, we're going to have a theme, but it's a big, broad tent of a theme that will (hopefully) accommodate everyone! The theme is "It's my favorite!" What does that mean?

It means you should draw or paint or collage your favorites. Like . . .

    Your favorite rock star.

    Or your favorite bird.

    Or your favorite Tudor monarch.

Your favorite Queens, comic book characters, dog breeds, beach coves, authors, painters, paintings, cocktails, butterflies, Steampunk assassins - anything you could have an opinion about is fair game!

Samples by amberskyfire, Genxster, waughtercolors, catpratt, TempestStudios, CindyD

We start at 8am (your time zone) on Thursday, March 2, 2017 and go
until 11 pm (your time zone) on Sunday, March 5, 2017.

Feel free to make cards in advance but don't post them til March 2!

    What is an art-a-thon?
If this is your first art-a-thon, and you're not entirely clear on how things work, check out this video. Everything is the same except the Halloween part, and of course, the dates.

    Instructions:
    • Make art that features your favorites all weekend
    • Stick to your division (MMA or P&P). If you're in both, do whatever you want.
    • Post your creations here in the thread and/or in the gallery.
    • Chat on the thread if you'd like.
    • Ask for and/or accept trades. Don't be shy.

BEST art only please! No rush jobs!

MAILING CARDS: Please mail out your cards from the Art-A-Thon within 1-2 weeks. All trades should be received within 3 weeks.

    What to make?
    • ATCs
    • Inchies / Twinchies (1 x 1 or 2 x 2)
    • Chunky pages (4 x 4)
    • Skinny pages (3 x 7)
    • Gothic arches (4 x 6)
    • Postcards (4 x 6 or 5 x 7)
    • Bookmarks

Helpful advice: If you make other sorts of mail art, make your trading preferences clear in the gallery. Examples: "I'd love to trade this 5x7 for another 5x7" or "I'm happy to trade this 5x7 for 2 ATCs."

How to Trade - Post your completed pieces to the gallery and/or here in this thread. When you see a card that you like, send a private message to the card creator and ask if they'd like to trade. Or you can post directly in the thread and ask. Exchange addresses, send off the card. Easy!

I've never made moos how do you store them? I think I have heard there are moo size frames but are there any albums?

Pabkins, I just staple a regular card sheet in the center of each sleeve. That makes two spaces for two Moo's, since they are only a little smaller than half an Atc.

Yes, GwennieJo, what are your favorites? What are everyone else's? I'm having trouble narrowing the playing field! My favorite medium? My favorite inanimate objects?

@TempestStudios - Wonderful! Thanks! I'll try my hand at it. I'll go look up the dimensions.

@GwennieJo Omg don't even get me started. Favorites are fantasy fantasy, steampunk and sci-fi. So you know thats what I"ll be drawing. And I know you and I both have Studio Ghibli favorites so I'll be making those. I actually think lots of us like it so I was thinking of hosting a Ghibli swap. I will be crazy all over the SFF with my favorites. Sadly I am not as good at drawing steampunk yet but I'm trying!

@KPinAK I'm definitely a fantasy creatures and characters where my favorites are concerned. The only inanimate objects I like drawing are mushrooms and those I still go anthropomorphic with.

@All it'll be fun to hear about how the drawn or created piece features a favorite in some way. I love hearing background info on folks creations!

    Hooray! How very cool!

I usually make my bookmarks 3x7. I have one that size from Sal, and it works great!

I have a few skinny pages I can try to finish and I just bought a batch of bookmark sleeve I bought because I got a few orders those are 2x6 and they were so much fun. I'll try to mix things up as much as I can.
