Thread: Coyote Swap - Due April 9, 2008

Default Coyote Swap - Due April 9, 2008

    Number of players: 20
Sign up by: March 1, 2008 or when all spots are filled.
Cards Due by: Vernal Equinox (April 9, 2008)
    Cards: 3/3 or 6/6
Mediums: Hand drawn: painted and mixed media. Originals only.

I recently read Coyote Road - Trickster Tales, edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling. I was moved to want to paint/draw many of the characters in the stories represented in the compilation.

Coyote: Is there any culture anywhere that does NOT feature a figurehead for this Troublemaker, this Shaker of Traditions, this Bad Luck Fairy? He does see to be more present in any American tale, very strongly of course, in American Indian stories. Bugs Bunny, Brer Rabbit, Fox (Japanese culture), Hermes, Mercury, Hang-Ne (China), a black Cajun man Murderes Petitpas, Crows, Loki, Ravens, Mab (Maeve) Queen of Fairies, Monkey (China again), even an old American Blacksmith (always seen with his Horse and Cart): all are Coyote figures. It's said that some people deal with Coyote more than others (I suspect I attract the figure myself; if you even knew SOME of my history, lol), others seem to be lucky and avoid him in all his forms!

It's also known that one NEVER talks about Coyote unless you want him to show up. Except during the dark days of winter, starting on the Solstice (today). So, we're safe to talk about him until Spring; in fact, he likes it. So, we're doing ourselves a favor by talking of a Trickster who likes very much to hear stories of himself, new ones even!

Isn't that, umm, backwards? Tho I like your thinking!
remember, people in forms such as Charles de Lint's characters also match, for those of you more enamored of the human form (over animal, which is where >I< am)
remember to put this swap on your sticky!

I am working on an American Indian Coyote Myth deco page as we speak.
It might be hard to compress images to ATC format--but I am game to try.
    Put me down.

I'm in. I actually work for a Folk band out of Williamsburg, VA called Coyote Run, so I've already done quite a bit of art for them, and illustrated a kids book involving the Trickster.

Bad news, our dear WhiteMoth had to withdraw.. we'll miss her and her art greatly!

Anyone else want to bug any friends to join us? We have some time to nudge others into playing with Coyote, Spider, or Loki, and if anyone had any crow cards left over, they may very well fit this swap also!

  18. Default Coyote Swap

May I join please? I am familiar with the trickster tales. I would love to do some coyote artcards!

Has anyone sent out an invite/poke to Ninnerfish or Lagaz? This swap seems like it would be up their alley
