Default Art Doll: Masquerade Ball DUE Apr 2, 2012

    2012 ART DOLL MASQUERADE BALL

Guidelines for the Art Dolls: THINK RIO OR TRINIDAD OR VENICIAN CARNIVAL
Moveable parts: Head should be attached with brad, arms should be attached at shoulder with brads, legs should be attached at hips with brads, your option to also have joints at elbow and knees (more moving parts).

Attachments: Wings, tails, etc are okay
Costume Accessories: detachable masks, masks on sticks, hats, beads/necklaces, boas, umbrellas, walking sticks/canes, top coats, caps, other festive articles you might want to add.

**When searching for links I was disappointed that the “traditional” costumes have seem to have gone way to the “T&A” costumes of today. I like the old traditional costumes of mysterious beaked masks for men and beautifully designed masks for women, and glamorous gowns and grand top coats and audacious wigs of all colors. Anyone can put on a pasty and string a few beads to a thong, but the grand ball gowns and attire were the best and THAT is what I’m really looking for….but if you just have to have a little T&A please limit it to just one doll….please. Thank you :>)

Dolls should be made on "sturdy" card stock or glued to something sturdy, copy paper dolls will be returned, they should be sturdy enough to stand alone (leaning on something)

See thumbnails below....if you go to yahoo and type in Vience Carnival Costumes and or Masks you will find a lot. The dolls are used with permission from the artist and while they are not examples of Masquerade Ball dolls/costumes they are excellent examples of how to put the dolls together, the use of costume as body parts and places dolls can have moving parts. If you have any questions please ask if you have never created an art doll I can promise they are addicting! I love them...have a great collection started but so many more to add......Artist are Els, Wildholly and Atlantashoegirl, Dina54 and Cindyjob. (thanks)

I'm rather intrigued. This sounds fun. But I've never made one of these before. Do you have a sample as to how the costumes adhere to the doll? Are they done like paper dolls with tabs? Do you make a doll dressed in her undergarments than all clothes are added? Or do you make the doll dressed, but just include extra items?

    Tell me more!

I will post some examples as soon as I receive permission to post from the artists. But For this one I think you can draw the dolls body to include the costume and attach head, arms and legs (if they would show) and then add the accessories i.e., cape, clock, top coat, jacket, masks, big wig, add necklaces canes etc as added pieces apart from the dolls. The female dolls could have on fancy bloomers and then add a big skirt with tabs or brads. the male dolls trousers/pants could be their legs but attache to a body so they are moveable. They too could have long clocks or fancy emblellished tuxedo type short coats, with grand hats with plumbs etc. As soon as I find something on line I will add the links. Hope that helps.

sabrina they are great fun to make, if you have any question ask, ask in the thread or privately, but you will get some great advice here on the thread. Look at the samples and I'm sure the artist wouldn't mind you asking them questions. The main thing is to make them on good card stock or a card board like the back of ceral boxes or the back of pads of many different papers. People use pen and ink, colored pencils, markers and acrylics too. Give it a try.....

Oi goodness......like a moth to a flame! I'd love to join this swap.

Are there any color scheme requirements? (No/yes b&w, vibrant or muted?)
