First of all, it is just the COOLEST THING that you are a bookbinder. The old arts! Also, it seems to suit you so well. The black sketchbook - cool idea! I always say I like the idea of using darker toned paper but then I never get to it. The skull is really cool. I love the blue accents.

Thanks Cindy! I personally have had some doubts about whether bookbinding suits me or not, but I'm sort of.. finding my way. It's true what so many people say, that one only truly discovers the whole thing after doing it for 10+ years or something.

And now, as promised, some skulls... and more skulls.

    the one that's almost finished

    a sketchy one

sketch getting somewhere, with a random assemblage as a bonus.
(This picture is bigger and I don't know how to make it smaller in any easy way so bleh.)

a somewhat obscure and bad picture of three larger paintings I've been working on.
I have so many of these unfinished large ones, feels like I'm drowning in them. Good!

a detail of the middle one in daylight..

    more skull-fillers.

Oh and when I haven't been painting or making books I've been drawing silly vampire fanart, so here's Louis. This was made around Easter though.

Love that Louis sketch! Actually everything here is cool. Great to see painting and other things that I wouldn't ordinarily see.

    Thanks Genxster & Amerasu!

Last weekend I drew some quickish self portraits as I was drinking my tea after waking up. So, I sort of accidentally took part in that "inktober" thing, although I mostly draw with ink anyway!

In this one someone is apparently shooting me in the head from a distance.

Wow, those first are like a really sophisticated set of fashion illustrations (with the possible exception of the shooting in the head bit). I totally love the one from the back, and the one below that. Very crisp, but with loose shapes.

These are so cool. As Cindy says, crisp but loose. Love your sketches.

Here are pictures and details of some of the paintings I've been working on lately. There's loads of more of course but these are worth uploading at the moment.

    Skull detail

Detail of a large self portrait thing I made during the holidays. This was the first thing I painted when I finally got round to it - I spent the first half of the holiday doing absolutely nothing, no art, nothing at all. I'd been feeling really stressed out because of the loads of work I had before the midwinter and even the thought of doing a single ATC or something made me all exhausted. It's getting so much nicer now. And when I got to painting, I painted lots. I think I did around 7-8 panels in the course of 2-3 days during the holiday. They're in various stages of unfinished of course, but I did them.

Lots of stuff has to be fixed in this but it's just a quick sketchy sketch. I often randomly include lyrics of the music I'm listening to while working, and then usually cover them up when I finish the pieces...

Detail of the most finished thing I painted. It's actually painted on a tall medium sized panel, approx. 70 x 40 cm, so there's lots of empty space above the skull and I'll put something in there later on.

A borzoi sketch, on top of a previous dog sketch

.. and a random dog sketch. Skulls, dogs, that's all for now!

These are really gorgeous so far, V. I like the white over browns. It's a really cool style and feels like there's a lot of depth.

Thanks Sal! I have the problem of making everything too black (because black is just so nice can't help it ugh), so I've been trying to make myself sketch & do the backgrounds with various browns for a while now. I also use white a lot because I love doing thin wash layers over white. I kind of like it too.

Black is great in the right style, and I am a huge fan of yours! Love the deep and moody contrasts and you capture people with geometric and lines so well.

Wow, what stunning paintings Veterok! I love your dark moody colors with white and a little jolt of intense color!

This spring has been kind of stressful so I haven't had time to do any ATCs. I've, however, made lots of books. Here are some blank books I made for my shop. Most of them have Canson Mi-Teintes for pages. (They're still for sale too, wink wink nudge nudge.)

Here are a couple of bones, too. These are actually from last year but I took them in a month ago:

    Some ink drawings:

This is an older one, but looks like I didn't show it before... who cares about anatomy or anything when you got so much blood and all that hair in the same piece.

Wow, the books look amazing! I love them! If I were richer, I would buy a bunch to use as journals and sketchbooks. I hope they sell quickly for you.

Super ink drawings too, very cool. Especially that first one with the red.

Before I got too busy in June, I was working on a new desk for myself. I've had this really crap and way too small desk for bookbinding and I've always thought some day I'm going to get a better one. Well, here's the better one. It's not even near to being finished yet, though. The welded frame will have some separate forged and riveted vertical rods, arts and crafts style, around it, and a top made of old oak wood we had lying around.

    Here's the oak:

Not sure what will become out of that. Woodworking is alien to me and I'm sort of glueing lots of these narrow pieces together... eh.
