For the Wiz of Oz swap over at AFA.
This one is in Anton Pieck's style; a Dutch illustrator whom I greatly admire (my favorite illustrator of all time). He also founded the Efteling, the Dutch Disneyland, so to speak.
Wikipedia (the only English site I could find about him, which sucks, because it doesn't show his work, for that, type Anton Pieck into Google Images. You'll get loads..)
Oh, since Pieck was as Dutch as they came, I gave Dorothy clogs and an old-fashioned Dutch toy, of which I don't know the name. But it involves the hoop and a stick and with the stick you push the hoop around, trying to keep it rolling as long as you can. (My guess is that the hoop comes from old barrels, used to hold the planks that make up barrels together, and so this was a very cheap game.) |
