I have always wanted to replicate his work... I have tried several times to get this type of work into one of my murals... but without success... until last year I did a series of murals on the subject matters that a high school was teaching. One of the subjects in the Sciences was Oceanography... & I was so excited to work his wave into the design... it was a blast to paint. I will try to put a pic of it in this reply...

katie

whoooo ... I attached a pic... yeah for me...

Katie - Your mural is wonderful.

Meran

Katie, you weren't very successful.. OMG, it's awesome, what do you mean you've 'tried for years and couldn't do it'???
silly chicken, trying hard is for freaks like me... sometimes we MIGHT get it.. you got it fine.
You're really very very good...

katie
02-01-2008, 08:39 PM
livia... you have a great delicate touch... I hope to get one of your cards

meran... I meant that I tried to 'work it into a design' that a client would approve or buy... but I did not have any success until this science panel...

This panel also has biology, chemistry & anatomy (thus the eye)... the mural series consisted of six 12' murals on a variety of subjects & all panels had at least one bear because that is the schools mascot.

Thanks for the complements... I guess I consider myself a good, but not great, painter... good enough to make a modest living with it.... but I hope to paint & design for myself, or my own visions, & not always what someone else wants to see.... (hope that makes sense).

I love this artist - I remember having to do a card at the OS for a person that requested him in a Favorite Artists PAT.
I deleted my gallery over there, but I saved the card on my computer so you could see what I did and you don't know me from Adam. It is in acrylics.

May I join?

Need reference help! Someone told me Hirshige had done a floating lady - almost like an angel with wheat flowing underneath her. Does anyone have a picture of this image? Does it ring a bell for anyone? For some reason It has caught my attention and I'd love to see it / maybe even use it.

Meran
03-21-2008, 10:16 PM
it's not in the three books I have (nor the calendar)
and doing a search on floating and Hiroshige gives far too many hits, because of the 'floating world' he dipicted...
sorry

My friend found the image and sent it to me. It's not exactly an angel - but I still like the composition. See what you think.

What a great lesson. You learn alot by looking at other famous artist. I like their color choices. Sometimes much more subtle then I would use. Great way to stay fresh specially for an art teacher like myself. I bad with facts, figures and names and this will help.

I'll be finishing mine up tonight and sending out tomorrow. This was a hard artist for me! He is so precise and I'm messy. A good learning experience though. And now I am a Hiroshige admirer.

After taking these pictures I worked on them alittle more. Taking pictures does help the eye be more critical. I tried to make them look authentic...old...but Im not sure if it really works.

Hi everyone - first off let me say that everyone's cards are incredible. I'm in awe of such astonishing work.

Unfortunately, I will have to withdraw from this swap. There is no way I can meet the Tuesday deadline. I've had a string of crazy/odd luck from taxes, to horrible Trojans on my computers, and health issues. It has all drained me to say the least. And I've put off writing this note to you for the last couple of days trying desperately to find the time to produce something worth being in this swap.

But I do look forward to seeing the final swap in the swap gallery. You should all be so proud of your masterpieces.

I figure I'll take the next fews days to just breathe, then get back into the swing of it all.

Peace - and hopefully no hard feelings,
Jud

I usually DO like the ones I send in ... of course, I like what I see being posted too, so my avarice overcomes my attachment, and I send them on to their new homes.

the last swap card I received has no name/info on the back... it is a watercolor & ink card of a snow scene w/ houses & person walking... it has 2 strips of collaged papers on it.. ???
