Some more Dark Crystal sketches that I'm not happy with all of them yet. I already painted the one that I was the happiest with.

Lovely work, I'd love to see it all completed! I suffer the same ailment as you, too many fun things to make and paint!

I am almost completely caught up with the iTrader binge trades that I lined up so that I could make it to enough iTraders to join that Secret Santa Swap. Here is the recent one I'm working on. We decided to trade Legend the movie, cards featuring The Prince of Darkness and Dark Lily. i also sketched Dark Lily dancing because I always loved that scene. I tend to sketch in batches then paint whichever I like best (makes for tons of abandoned sketches) anyways I decided to just paint all 3 this time. Hopefully they'll turn out.

Some mushroom ATC

Mushi family represents my family as my 4yo son saw it after it was inked and said it was missing a baby Dylan and he even pointed exactly where he needed to go.

Momma mushi and her little baby.

adding this here (i removed it from the main start post)

That vibrant mushroom is so cool! I really love all the saturated colors you've used in lots of atcs lately. I like your ones with tons of white highlights too, but these are my fave. Those Legend cards are looking great!

I'm working on a lot of Curiosity cabinets for a Instagram swap group I host #ATCitupwithfriends. This one tho is hopefully for Waughtercolors if she likes it. She liked the other organic critter cabinet I did a few weeks ago so we decided to swap critter cabinets.

Thanks Amerasu! I love children's books and illustrations I love for my art to tell a story. I notice so many ARCs are portraiture and busts and while that is great I love the atmosphere of a setting and how it can make a story come to life for me or the viewer. Some come easier then others lol

I just realized a few days ago that I was super close to having made 366 ATC this year...so I am binging to get the last 12 made before New Years....go go go. I'm having my own art-o-thin over here!!

I totally did it!! I made 366 ATC in 2016....some are not my best but overall I'm pretty happy. Now to start the count for 2017!

Since I recently became somewhat obsessed with the graphic novel Mouseguard I made a bunch of cards inspired by it... Maybe I'll stash these for a future Mouseguard or animals in clothes swap!?

Thanks Cindy! I love the character set that look like the rounded background borders. I am trying to design one for the PAT since that is one of the group 7 themes! It's so nice to see iatc hopping again now that holidays are over.

I recently had to make 2 tribute pieces for an Edward Gorey, The Gashlycrumb Tinies tribute show so of course I made them as ATCs since I mostly have time for small pieces right now.

Which has prompted me to want to make the entire alphabet and to collect a set of my own. So I'll keep track of that here in my personal thread. I updated the very first post with the entire alphabet list and the ones currently in progress of being made. I went searching around among my instagram friends to see who's styles might best fit the collection. I'm not interested in collecting them in the style of Edward Gorey since I don't love those illustrations, its the idea of them paired with the morbid and sweetly sad poem/book.

These are the two I've made. Perhaps I'll start at the end of the Alphabet and work my way to A since the letters I was assigned were toward the end.

Q is for Quentin who sank in a mire

X is for Xerxes devoured by mice

I love Ed Gorey as well and I have the GashlyCrumb Tinies book too! I wish I could draw like him. I love all that cross-hatching and line work. When I get caught up we can do a GCT trade.

Oddly I like the book and the morbid humor of it but I'm not a fan of his art. I know that sounds weird right!? So I am not interested in collecting fan art of his style but a storybook type illustration card of each child and their demise.

I got the extreme bug to do some papercutting so I saw a drawing I never painted hanging on my string and redrew it as a papercut template. The left is the original the right is the redesigned mushi as a papercut, hours of painstaking cutting by hand but such fun!

That's really pretty! Just how long did it take to finish? :O

I could tell by all the details in your work that you have extreme patience, but that paper cut piece, wow!

What do you mean "hanging on my string"?

Pabkins
06-18-2017, 06:40 PM
@Blanche - I got the bug and started drawing a template probably around 5 or 6pm and didn't finish til nearly 3am. I stopped for snacks! Oh and I used spray adhesive the next day to put it on the red cardstock and then voila done. I think it'll go quicker once I get the hang of drawing in such a way where all the lines are connected because everything is supposed to be connected that is going to stay as the final piece if that makes sense. I ordered a little sharps container and plan to do some more because I really enjoyed it. I snap blades a lot...the tip of one flew in my eye a few weeks ago... I better add protective eye goggles to that to buy list!

@Catpratt - what I mean by hanging on my string is I have several strings hung up around my studio. 2 across the window and one above my marker rack. I hang cards there that I don't plan to finish anytime soon but don't want to lose or forget about and I hang finished ones there that are part of a personal trade that I have to finish another card for. Only sketches get hung on the strings across the window so they don't fade. Here is the one above my marker rack

Another handdrawn then handcut papercard. I don't know if these count as PP or MMA so I didn't post it to the gallery. But figure putting it in my personal project thread is ok.

Trade this on on instagram

These next two went much faster but aren't as detailed and I still have a lot to learn about how best to design the cut and stay areas.

Its been awhile since I updated here. I've been using sketchbooks so much more this year and so happy for it too. I think it has helped me map out my cards better and just art in general.

I did a Sketchbook Project sketchbook for the Brooklyn Art LIbrary and submitted that several months ago. I am still waiting for them to digitize it so it'll be available on their online library. When it is I'll be sure to link it as its open to the public for anyone to view. They have so many cool sketchbooks in the library!

I producted my second art book! I'm so proud of it and can't wait to hold the proof and final copies in my hand! It was for the March of Robots challenge I did in March and I loved all the robots so much and I had so many more robots that I'd done that I thought it would make a perfect and fun little artbook.

Here is a look at all the cards I made and a link in case anyone is interested in scoooping up a copy.

In other even more exciting news, I am currently working on a HUGE artbook project that will compile many of the 2016 and 2017 ATCs that were made in the instagram ATC community that I run. Some of you have joined in a few times there and some of the folks there I've recruited to be members here. This book will mean so much to me because I know I wouldn't have kept going with my art the way I have without all the fantasy artists I've come to know the past few years. So thanks so much you guys. I've never seen a ATC/sketchcard themed art book before so I'm hoping it'll do really awesome! I'll share some news here when its finally ready for the world!

I don't know if I had put annual goals in ths 2018 thread this year but I feel like I've been doing good on getting things done that I wanted to do this year. I hope you all are as well!
