Kitschy: (adj.) quite cool, nifty, but still cheesy.
This swap is all about kitschy-cute things. If it's something people think of when they think of a country or area, often sold in some form at tourist traps - it qualifies. XD If it's some sort of cheap plastic item/toy that is now an icon of some sort - it qualifies. XD As long as it's somehow cool and cute while being utterly ridiculous, it's kitschy-cute!
Examples: Kewpie dolls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kewpie_doll_(toy)), rubber duckies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_duckie), lawn gnomes (http://www.cleanairgardening.com/gardengnomes.html), pink plastic flamingos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plastic_flamingo), 3-legged money frog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-legged_money_frog), Darumas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daruma), painted Dutch clogs (http://www.cloggieshop.com/), lucky-cats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_cat), Russian nesting dolls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nesting_dolls), dashboard hula dolls (http://www.stuff-o-rama.com/hula.html).....
If there is anything in particular you're planning on doing for this swap that's not listed above, please feel free to share with the rest of us. :D I'll add it to the list above to help inspire others. :D The links above are examples only - please do not feel constrained to portray only the subjects above!
