My Favorite Artist Swap!

Here is the Swap I was hosting over at the Yahoo group! :D If you've signed up for it over there, give a shout in this thread and I can sign you up here instead :D

New participants are Welcome! :jiggy:

send in 2 to 4 get the same number back :)

Due date: Aug 11th I'd like to make it later, but I was dumb and made it for this early date at the other site :eek:

Please READ: This is a kind of reversal of the Fav artist PAT. YOU pick the artists you want to emulate!

You actually have three options: 1) you can religiously copy a portion of the artists work 2) you can religiously copy the artists work and add a TWIST! Like paint the Mona Lisa in a Sari or something :D 3) You can create an original composition using only the Style of your artist...Like I could paint a picture of my cat in the style of Joe Sorren..(OMG I should DO that!)

You MUST include a SASE if you are in the US

If you are international, I will cover three of you :D If I take on any more, that is fine, but I would have to request a dollar or something :( Sorry..I HATE doing that.

I've finished 2 cards so far, Joe Sorren style.

I thought this was a 3 for 3! Was it always a 2/2 or 4/4 swap at Yahoo? I wrote down 3 but that's probably because I'm so used to doing 3 cards per swap. Can I send 3? Or is that too annoying? You can tell me.

That Joe Sorren is a Great artist! Yours are Great too Amerasu! The funny thing is that the first one still oozes Amerasu while it's not your style at all... See how strong ones signature is! :)

That's funny MANUZ! I look at those cards and don't see anything of me but I know just what you mean. If you or adriayna or EQ (as examples) posted fave artists cards, I know I'd see your styles come through too. Funny how that works. :)

Oh it would be wonderful to just deal here than with the yahoo site too! I'm signed up over there, so please move me here..
I had other artists named (on yahoo), but i just had a Saturday full of Brian Froud, so I believe I should do his style. I'm thinking more crushed fairies. (will be new for me, haven't done a single fairy all my life, drawn that is..)
And since I won't be starting my cards until Thurs, I won't be 'wasting' a card!

I'm confused,

Is this the same swap that was on ATCards? If so, were we to do 3 cards for each person, 3 cards of your own artist? Have I really screwed up, or as usual, should I just shut up and go to bed.

Joel, this swap was originally from the Yahoo group (where we used to trade before this site). It was right in the middle of the swap when we moved here so EQ just posted it here too.

It's definitely not the same one as the Fave Artist PAT from ATcards!

Just finished 2 of my cards, and I want to tell you that Brian Froud is not easy to copy! It was a lot of work, I'm good with one and the other will have to do, learned a LOT. Will post later, when the protective spray is dry.

Hey, I didn't come up with those things, Froud's mind bore them.. I only color! hah!
Grown up coloring books, nothing else than that..
If I was 'as good' as Froud, well, then, I'd be rich, rotflmao
Met him a couple weekends ago at the Fairy Fest or whatever it was called.. quiet, unassuming man. He signed 4 books for me and a set of cards. Talked to me the whole time, as if I was the only one in line. Love him muchly. He's sweet.
I even shook his hand and made my niece do it to... she wondered why. I told her maybe, if she was lucky, some of his talent would rub off.

Oh good.. don't want anyone to think I'm getting a swelled head over this.. re: thread OT about posting cards within threads... I've always been guilty of that myself. I like to see what people come up with and since I subscribe to the threads that makes it easiest.
Glad they're done. And on the way. Now to tackle other things...
It'll be very interesting to see what comes back; there're some awesome artists on this site, and in this swap! I find I'm actually looking forward to IATC swap returns. Imagine that! lol

Ieee - good thing I miss-set my alarm! :D I got up early enough to do a quick run to the forums! :D I've addressed the envelope and I'll bring it with me to work. I'll try to convince my manager to make a quick run to the nearby postoffice and get it in the mail today. :D

Thanks EQ, remind the newbie worriers that I hadn't touched colored pencil to paper before end of March 07. If I can do it, anybody can. I do believe that.. it's a matter of "I'm stuck in bed with my foot above my head and I can only read 4-5 books a week before I'm bored out of my skull" (I had foot surgery. that's what started all this. lol)
Thanks, really. I haven't been able to sell my glass work for ages and had been having DOUBTs...

Okay - apparently fate decided the ATCs must be sent out on Monday. The post-office was closed (at 2 in the afternoon? I thought the post office closed at 4 on Saturdays??) and the stamp machine outside was empty. ;_____;

Homemade bread is the BEST! A must do. Not as hard as it seems either, after you get over the intimidation factor... I have a baguette pan to bake perfect long skinny loaves....yummmmmmmy...

Yeah, I've been making my own bread since I was 19.
Stopped for a while, cuz the current SO (we have 15 yrs now) wouldn't eat it.. wasn't airy enough (yuck) and I'd have to eat both loaves.. couldn't, would turn green, so I stopped for a while.
Now, it was always pretty easy (I don't like bread machines, btw) to do; with wheat flour anyway.
Now it turns out I'm allergic to wheat.

Now try to make bread __without__ wheat. I'm mixing my own flour blends, and then mixing again, and adding gluten replacements, and rye flavorings, etc etc. It's no longer easy, let me tell you!
But I have found some decent recipes. AND it's the only bread I can have, so I make it. (those gluten free loaves you see in the stores? buy one. taste it, toss your cookies, throw it away, give up!)
Making bread now takes about the same time (2 hrs) but it's all in one bunch of time (instead of before kneading and after rising) and you don't get the pretty smooth loaf (it's really more of a batter bread) but it's at least 'toothsome'
So EQ, I know what you mean!

I don't think you can do that with images from our gallery. I upload the photos I want to show in a thread at Photobucket, and then use the IMG code they provide :)

Photobucket is free and they allow hotlinking :)
