Cards Due by: Dec 15, 2007
Cards: 2/2 or 4/4
Mediums: Hand drawn: painted and mixed media. Originals only.
Hosted by: ArtyIaGirl
OVERVIEW
I love the rich tradition of stories embodied by Greek Mythology. So, I thought it would be fun to do a swap on this theme. Cards can represent the major gods/goddesses or some of the "lesser" characters such as the furies or the graces. Basically, if it’s part of the greek mythology tradition, it’s a go in this swap.

So, all you lurkers, join us. Remember, it only takes 2 cards to play --and they aren't due until December.

OK artyIOWAgirl, how'd you do those backgrounds?
They are very batikish.
artyiagirl
10-01-2007, 03:47 AM
I used acrylics on watercolor paper (this provides a lot of the texture). I also added some torn cream colored fiber paper on top of the painted background. It's something new that I'm playing with. Last week, I laid out a big batch of blanks and began painting them. Once they were dry, I used gel matte medium to glue down the fiber paper. The medium melds the fiber paper seamlessly into the background.

They're awesome cards (Athena in particular I love - I've always loved owls!). XD Experimentation is fun. X3

Those are great!
Ha...I didn't see the number until now...I made four, and I want to keep going!
There are still muses, and heroes, and titans and... and...:D
here are my first ones...

Your cards are fantastic!! I posted comments in the gallerty - but I'll repeat them here. I think that Hermes is very dashing and I love his 5 o'clock shadow. Artemis is so ethereal and I love the details of her accessories. Eros definitely looks like he's up to no good. And, Athena's battle gear is primo.
Can't wait to see what else you're inspired to create!!

Hey Kathleen - Welcome, Welcome. So glad to have you aboard!!
Also - I've been thinking about it and I'd like to hear if folks have favorite gods/goddesses or anything in particular that they are collecting - to assist me in my hosting return duties. If possible, I will attempt to match up folk's favs with their returns. Thanks!!
Klawzie
10-29-2007, 03:27 AM
I'm not particular, really. XD I'll be happy with whatever I get. XD
I like the muses and nymphs. Artemis and Athena are always lovely. Apollo... Persephone and Cupid (I forget his Greek name - if he has one)... Medusa's cool too. XD

Cool cards starweaver! I like the way you used borders to tie the set together while still working in unique symbols. I also dig that you included the greek name.

I have the sketches done for mine. :) Depending on how busy I am at work and/or tired after work, I have four other cards to finish before I can start on these. :3 But they are next on the list!
As a sort of "preview" I'll tell you what I covered: Medusa, Psyche and Eros, Persephone and Artemis!

Hey there... I've been doing research, and I want to verify that this project is for Greek goddesses. I keep coming across other goddesses that I am tempted to do, but I wanted to check on the expectations first.
Thanks for the clarification. :)

I'm not sure if this attachment button will work for me this time, but I'm uploading my first goddess card. I did Selene. The metallic paint probably doesn't show up exactly the way it appears in person... hopefully I'm on the right track here. I'm going to try to get my second card finished tomorrow or later on this evening.
I don't think I'll be able to finish more than 2/2 on this swap.
artyiagirl
12-02-2007, 09:29 PM
Hey Kathleen - She's great!
Don't worry about doing just the 2/2 -- I included the option so that folks who were limited on time could still participate in the theme!
Thanks for making time to join us!

Starweaver - Those are great - I really like the non-traditional ink colors and figure study style on your cards.
Kathleen -- wonderful Aphrodite card!
And for both of you --- I love the range of styles represented by your Aphrodites. These returns are going to be lovely!!

As much as I hate to do this, I think I'm going to have to withdraw from this swap. I love this theme and had started with some ideas. But I just don't have the time to complete them and get them in the mail by the 14th which is in one day! I may go ahead and finish them anyway, but they won't be in time for your swap so maybe I can just trade them individually later.

Hey PG - no worries - it is a crazy, crazy time of year.
Everyone else - Today's the deadline. I'm waiting for the arrival of TheeCoyote's cards - which should be here any minute!! I also need to check in with Klawzie. Last I heard, she was having some crazy work hours, etc in her life. So, she might need to drop.
I'll let everyone know as soon as I hear. Happy Weekend!!!!

A couple of quick updates -
1. I am still waiting on TheeCoyote's cards -- I thought they'd arrive today for sure!! Although, it is the busiest mail day/time of the year.
2. I had a chance to correspond with Klawzie. She is in the middle of uber-craziness with her job and she's trying to move before Christmas! So she has to drop the swap. She mentionned that she has some cards in process and that once complete, she would give first dibs for trades to participants of the swap. So, everyone send her good energy as she tries to get through a crazy week!!:D
I will let everyone know when cards are in the mail. Thanks for your patience -- I think you'll really enjoy the returns. It's a diverse and beautiful group of cards!

I am still waiting on a book I bought from a UK amazon seller--it's been two weeks.
Thanks for updating.
Maybe today?
