View Full Version : RAK for my Grandmother

Hi everyone. I realize I’m new to all of this, but Anne (Anonevyl) said to write anyhow. Here’s the RAK I’m requesting if anyone can help.

Random Act of Kindness Request:
My 101 year old Grandmother (see attached picture taken at her 100th birthday) is very ill and having problems with the news that her independent life is over. She needs cheering up.

She has, up to just a few weeks ago, still been living by herself, taking care of herself, leading a very full life. But all that has ended suddenly. She is so independent and beautifully stubborn. And I admire her so much.

So if anyone would like to help, I’d love to send her a collection of cheerful, happy ATC’s from our group. She has always supported my art in any way and I’d love for art to help guide her through this difficult change of life.

She loves flowers and anything in nature. She is also a devout Catholic and gains much inspiration from Christian symbolism.

If you are interested in helping, please send the cards to our gallery:
Alvida Art Gallery
7303-D Abercorn Street
Savannah, GA 31406

I will probably send out over-night packages every few days.

Thanks so much!
Peace,
Jüd

Can you believe that is her natural hair color? She's NEVER dyed it. If only I had her genes - UGH!

Thanks so much.

Does she have any particular saints she likes? :3 I'm considering drawing the Virgin Mary for her, but if there was anyone she pays particular attention to, I'd try them instead!

You are the sweetest thing since sticky buns, I swear, Klawzie! You are precious!

::laugh:: Oh man. I hadn't heard that one (re: sticky buns). That's so Southern, I love it. 8D

Oh Klawzie - thanks so much. That's very kind and I suppose Sticky Bunn Sweet too (If you want to use Cat's southern idioms :-)

My Grandmother is a die hard Virgin Mary follower. She does her rosary beads twice a day, and has a small Mary figurine by her bed stand.

She will be very honored. You are a very gifted artist.

Just wanted to let you know I'd finished the card. :3 It should go out in the mail tomorrow, and since I'm only a few hours up the road from you, hopefully it'll get there by Friday! :o

I'll see if I can paint a tree for her this week, since she likes nature :).

Yep, me too. I meant to do this last week when you first posted but I got distracted as usual. I'll try and do a religious icon for her.

Oh Thank you, thank you, thank you all of you. Your kindness and generosity will not go unnoticed. I was able to send my Grandmother a little sketch the other day in the mail, and she's posted it above her bed to the envy of everyone around.

Klawzie - it looks stunning! You've managed to capture such a purity in that face. You are such a gifted line artist. I really enjoy your color choices and the wonderful ways you bring your subjects to life.

Amerasu - thank you for your help. It would be an honor to send her your art.

Adriayna - Oh, she loves trees. She proudly took me through her house last year to show me 2 different tree prints. She said that, 'If you can't get out to nature, it's nice to bring nature in." She'll be so surprised!

Almost forgot - I just got new glasses and it has been driving me insane. I can barely see a computer screen let alone do a painting for the last few days. (you should have seen me the first day - I could barely even drive - it was down right hysterical).

But today I think I'll finally be able to finish the 2 cards I'm working on for her. I'll post them up when they're done. I'm really putting some serious detail in them - so having working eyes does help :D

Again, thanks for all your kindness everyone! I can't wait for her to get them! Nothing can cheer someone up more than gifts of the heart.

Peace!

I just wanted to send a HUGE thanks to CAT & Klawzie for your wonderful, giving cards. I'm rather speechless in how I can thank you enough.

Hopefully a card will do. Any request?

Thanks so much,
Love & Blessings,
Jud

Just wanted to note that I responded to your PM (both so you wouldn't miss it and no one would think maybe I missed this post). :D

But, again, you're very welcome. :D

Hello - Well after a month of the Bubonic Plague, I finally went to the Doctors to find out I had 'Walking Pneumonia' - ICK. So at least I have a good excuse for all my procrastination.

Anyhow, I was finally able to finish another card for my Grandmother. About 2 years ago, she and I sat at my parents house watching a hummingbird, and having the most wonderful conversation about life. So I sent her this http://www.illustratedatcs.com/forum/gallery/index.php?n=1346 bird as a memory we shared.

Thanks again for all your kindness. She has told me how grateful she is for all the love.

Peace!

Well after giving it the good fight, my Grandmother passed away in her sleep yesterday. She made it to 101 & 3/4th!

She was an incredible woman. I know you would have all loved to meet her. She supported the arts in so many ways. And I'll miss her greatly.

Thanks for all your lovely cards and feedback and encouragement. We really thought she could pull through this one as she has so many other challenges in the past. But I imagine she was lonely and wanted to get to her husband and friends.

She was able to share nearly 80 years of her life with one friend alone. Her husband only got 50!

Thanks again. And needless to say - I'll be off the site for a few days. I think I'm leaving Wednessday night or ealry Thursday.

Peace and Long Life to everyone,
Jud

Many hugs and blessings during this time hun....for you and your family. I hope you have a good laugh with your family too...remembering all the good stuff. I think the best thing to do, when you lose someone, is smile. Because you know she'd want you to. *hug*

::hug for you::

Thanks everyone.

Thankfully I was able to have about a 30 minute conversation with her Saturday afternoon. We joked and laughed and had a wonderful conversatioin. She even shared with me how young and cute one of her male nurses were.

Jud, I was just getting ready to mail a card to your Grandmother. I am glad she recieved all the others. Balletbon :swoon:

Oh Balletbon - that is so kind of you. I'm certain she would have appreciated it. Maybe you can send it to a nursing home to give someone else inspiration. Or do like a complete stranger did to a friend and just hand it to someone in the mall. You never know where hope is needed!

Thanks so much for thinking of her and have a blessed day!
