Long due date means I can't pass it up. :)
Meran - I had to start somewhere, this is my first and I feel a little anxious and excited all at the same time, the effect is somewhat nauseating
OY - I was looking at all my cards that will be due in the middle of October and and wanted to cry like a little girl, so I gave myself an extra month just for kicks.
By the by, your both in!

Ok, sorry for the slight delay, yesterday was the last day my sis was in town so we hung out and I didn't get to a computer.
So Artyiagirl, Adriayna, and Amerasu are all in! I am so excited to have you here. I just realized this is a predominately A group, maybe OY and Meran need to do some non A recruiting :spinny:

Pleeease sign me up! This is such a nifty idea--text is such a huge part of illustration, and we often forget how important it is.

OH oh oooooooh, I wanna do this one tooooo. Danggit. I'm such a procrastinator though...:P
Well, didn't you see the note saying the whole reason the due date is in the middle of November is specifically for procrastinators!!!! Welcome swaggy!
Hey Folks!!! This is a fabulous swap, and if you haven't joined up yet shame on you! The only requirement is to have some text incorportated, and so basically it is open season on the atc theme. Come on in and sign up
or else...

Hi.... I am new here... & would like to start out by joining this swap... katie
Welcome katie!!! I feel so privileged to be your first here. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!!!
I suppose calligraphy would be OK for the swap? Or illustrations with speech bubbles?(probably not so...)
I repeat ANY TEXT, i.e. writing, language, etc... so are you in clep?
Yeah. November is great too. I must be the president of the junior procrastinators' club.
Great your in! I'm looking forward to seeing your concepts of text...

Absofrigginlutely! Welcome, the more the merrier!!!
What a great word abi!...absofrigginlutely...fun to say. Anyway...I should be back and running again. I have to get back into swaps again, so can you sign me absofrigginlutely, too? If I start now....
Jart
Absofrigginlutely!!! Welcome jart!!! Maybe I will have to work on incorportating absofrigginlutely into my cards for this swap.

I'm about halfway done with these. They are going to be really different. I decided to do a complex layering background with russian text and fiberous paper, then do several layers of paints/glazes on top. I'm now adding ink work and some more acrylic to give them some character, combined with more russian text. Will post pictures soon!
I am very excited, these sound fabulous!!!

abi, if I want to try out some calligraphy type stuff, but feel like it would work better in a larger size original (but one that's entirely hand-lettered and hand-drawn), would it be okay to submit OOAK reduced prints for this swap if I promise to never reproduce?
Not sure how this kind of thing goes over in the ATC community and it hasn't come up for me before, but I'm thinking of trying some calligraphy and I don't think I can do it justice (or, frankly, do it at all) at 2.5 x 3.5.
Let me know!
It is fine with me, but we will pose this to the group. If anyone is not down with PB doing some reducing either post or pm me by this weekend.
PB if you don't hear from me by Mon morning go with it, hope this is not too much of a delay :spinny:

Nope, I'm thinking ahead on this one. Monday is fine. Later than that is fine, too. Historically, I've always worked at "real size" but it seems like a larger canvas would be necessary for the kind of lettering I'm imagining. I'm happy to wait and will happily accept any answer; no hard feelings, and I'm actually just curious about whether this is ever actually done with ATC's. In this case I'd probably keep the original (or send it to you, The Abster!) Just wanted to ask well in advance, because I have a few ideas churning. Thanks!
Well I must admit that I would be willing to heavily supress any opposing thoughts if the original made it my way *lol* Just kidding, we are all about free, unoppressed speech here and I value the opinions and thoughts of everyone involved. (but the original would be nice ;) )

Hey Abi -
My cards will be mailed in the morning. I'm including 4 cards - your choice on the extra for hosting.
Thanks for an excellent swap!!
artyiagirl - Great! Thanks for letting me know! I am looking forward to seeing them in person!
Artyiagirl they made it! Thaks so much they are great! As a side note I had them at school with me because they were in my purse (I get my mail at my parents as they have a locking box) and my 1st graders say the dragon & fairy on the back of the sleeve and then had to look at them. They lined them all up and made them into a family, Fresh Faced is the father, Tell me the mother, the other the daughter and of course they have a bird pet. I was cracking up and thought I would share it with you too.
I am off to leave you i-trader ratings :)

OMG Abi - I love that!! That makes me feel warm and happy. When your art is a hit with kids - there's nothing better in the world for me. They give the most honest and interesting feed back in my opinion -- and keep us in touch with our imaginary lives.
Whenever V (my step-daughter) is staying with us, she loves to get out my cards in progress and lay them out. She often likes to make up stories or have me tell her what I was thinking when I made them. The best times are when she wants to jump in and make cards in the same theme.
It's funny to think about kids looking at art and finding relationships between images and then think about how grown ups go to art museum to look at art and they're doing the same thing -they just think they're doing it at a "higher" level. I like to think that kids are looking at art in a more real way - fewer filters and layers of crap. It's also interesting to see how early our archetypes are in place for viewing the world!
Thanks so much for sharing that great anecdote!!

Thank you! I visited the art store today to buy some garish purple gouache... I mean, really, you never know when you will want to blind someone with a punch of purple. ha ha! I think I should get color-addiction counseling. I look forward to making some more text-oriented cards.

no, you didn't do anything, I am just easily confused. It only lasted as long as it took me to open them up and look at them. You know sometimes you are expecting something or not and the opposite thing happens, I simply got mail on a day I wasn't expecting any. Thanks so much for asking :)

Too much to do! Wasn't that, kinda, what the White Rabbit said?
I should have a card with that on it... maybe my next request/trade!
Am worrying about one of my doglets.. he's very ill. We're waiting on a blood test to see what to do next... :(

Meran, I am sorry to hear about your doglet, let us know what the results are :)
OY, I love both of your cards. I know that several people have really struggled with this swap, but hang in there! Your cards are worth it!
Meran
11-06-2007, 10:10 PM
The face card reminds me of young children, touching parts of the face, and naming them, then giggling their little butts off!
Those cards are fine my dear. Maybe not museum quality, lol... but then, neither are mine.. unlike that sweet sweet dandelion card I got from abi..
Sure abi, we'll let you know.
I may need some RAK cards for grendel.. I have a winged one of him in my gallery, if you'd like to see him. He's a doggie Eeyore.. always did hang his head and look up at you. Brat. Never would sit properly, nor mind.. what a terrier! Now, his eyelids are all skinless, fur falling off, blackened thick skin patches on his legs. I wonder if he has Cushings.. the blood test should at least rule that out. He's been losing weight pretty steadily too. In his heyday, he weighed 14, now he's a tit over 11. And we pack the food down his throat too!! (he eats just fine)
sigh. He's in James' office right now, laying under the desk, by the warm humming computer, in a doggie bed (they're pretty much everywhere.)
Thanks abi.

11-10-2007, 05:34 AM
abi, if you have some Museum Gel, they can be 'stuck' up pretty much anywhere that they are supported on the bottom (shelf, table, etc) and stay there.. These ARE glass, they WILL break...
I'm glad everything arrived just fine. I had enough postage on them?
Thanks for the reminder about them being glass ;)
You had sufficient postage to my knowledge, no notice came with it, so I assume so :)

I don't mind waiting a few extra days, for what it's worth.

Y'all are so sweet to offer to wait, my cards weren't really even that good! I'll have a definite answer on Monday AM when I return; if I can't mail them first thing on Monday then I will run away for good and hide under a rock.
Abi, I'll still send the one I made for you (the African Mask) with your TipTops next week even if I don't get to play in the swap.

Hey, Fellow Artists!

Thanks to Abi for being such a great host and to the following artists for their beautiful creations: rubypaleface - Fidgety Frank, adriayna - Russian Roulette, Kathleen - Open the Doors, dk skains - Just a Reminder, amerasu - Beautiful, and hairless bill - Frog.
You guys are one talented group of people! Thanks for sharing it with me!
Take care,
Danny

Glad to know that all your lovely cards are finding their ways home!
Ok, so not because I am a i-trader point ego-maniac, but rather there are many times I myself forget to leave trader points, this is just a friendly reminder that i-trader ratings are a fun way to leave feedback.
If you aren't sure how to go about it, feel free to ask :)

I'm still waiting on my cards; no doubt due to Canada Post and Christmas!
What a bummer :( I hope they get there soon.
