As much fun as this swap sounds, it's nearly impossible for me to finish cards and have them to you in a month time. If you ever decide to move the date out, PM me!
Just an FYI - A swap host has 90 days from the start of the swap to send the cards back out. Many people use a swap due date of about 2 months or so. A swap host has 2 weeks from the due date to send the cards back out.
Can't wait to see all the amazing art from this swap! Wish I could join.

Oh! A quick turn around swap! I actually may join because of the sooner due date LOL. lemme see if I can made the cards and I'll be back!

hhmmm.... a month is too soon for me too. Next time! Sounds like a great swap theme, easy at least, lol! :)

I won't have such short turnaround dates in the future. I am sort of in a hurry on this one because I would like to get my first one done. I want to do one for Frida Kahlo's birthday (and mine)...July 6th and can't do a second one until I've done and finished my first. I didn't want to wait to do the Frida swap as my first because then I would be waiting a lot longer. This is why my life gets crazy....I create all these dramas for myself.
I would love to have had you in the swap Amerasu and Judithian. Start your Frida cards now :)
Amerasu
04-20-2009, 05:57 PM
ok, go on then. Add me! I can handle 3 cards before May 25 - I think, lol :)

04-20-2009, 11:13 PM
Wish I could, but I have an art show here in Savannah to get ready for - and I haven't even started yet - UGH! Thanks though.
Besides, I promised myself I wouldn't sign up for a single extra swap until I get all personal trades caught up.

Good Luck on your show Judithian.
I've added you to the list Amerasu.
Eraser Queen just let me know when I can add you ;)

Color me crazy, but I'm doing pretty well on catching up with my swaps, so I'll sneak this one in.

04-26-2009, 04:20 AM
Yay, molossus, I'm exctited you are joining. I received one of your cards in a recent swap and it was amazing.
molossus
04-26-2009, 07:21 AM
Well, you've inspired me, and I got on a roll tonight. I've done my three plus one for the hostess! I think these four are fairly representative of my work-one on illustration board, one on momi paper, one on elephant poo paper and one on balsa wood.
EraserQueen
04-26-2009, 01:48 PM
Okay, you can put me down!
morning star
04-26-2009, 02:24 PM
This just keeps getting better and better. Eraser Queen I'm thrilled you are joining too!
Such great colorful work.
Molossus great as usual. I can't wait to see what elaphant poo paper is like. What a funny name. So which is your favorite surface to work on?
molossus
04-26-2009, 05:27 PM
I can't say I have a favorite. Each has its strengths and each its problems. The momi is fantastic if I want a very dramatic image, but you have to fight the metallic gold streaks. The lokta gives a rich, deep color but tends to shred or pill if you aren't careful, and the balsa wood adds an instant patina of age but the grain can get in the way of your picture. The illustration board gives the truest, brightest color but I have to do all the work!

I'm so glad you could join us Meran
I was raised Catholic and do guilt well but I've learned to get over it quickly!
Meran
04-28-2009, 05:33 PM
I grew up with a lot of Catholics, my home town is 50%... :D So, I know how to hand it out, but am forgiving.. :jiggy:
hmmm.. should be a nice swap.
I've worked on wood too, but use some oak veneer that I have glued onto chipboard (or something like it), sand it and gesso it too, sometimes.. haven't done that in a while. Seems it would work well for the oil pastels.. maybe I'll try one and if I like it, I'll put it in there!
Amerasu
04-29-2009, 01:23 PM
Working on mine right now and hope to get them out in the next day or two. I think this is the fastest I have ever worked on swap cards, lol!

molossus Your amazing cards came today. (I feel like I'm stuck on the word amazing today. My returns for the figurative swap came today and they were amazing too.) All my posts seem to have the word amazing in them. BUT if the word fits.....
I love the texture of the elephant poo ( I kind-a-like saying it too!) paper

I'm glad my cards made it. I always sort of hold my breath until they arrive for fear the dreaded snail mail goblins will eat them!
I love the lilting quality of the sound, too--elephant poo paper. Now, if I could only find some of the panda poo paper--even better!

OMG, if you find panda poo paper I want some! :D

OK, I think I'm ready to get your address. Would you PM me with it so I can get these sent off?
I decided to do some more of my watercolour landscapes but this time with a little twist. I'm finding myself more and more influenced by Art Deco and Art Nouveau lately. Hope they look ok!
Meran
05-04-2009, 05:27 AM
Sandra, those are nice, and Katilady's are great too.. (just a note Katilady.. for those of us who are ignorant (ie. me), please tell us at least the medium you used and maybe a little of the process..
Hey, Colleen, you know that bribe you were talking about? ;) See above..
katilady
05-04-2009, 03:25 PM
Hey Meran--I used hard molding paste that I spread onto matboard with a credit card. Then using the credit card, and a large and small cap from bottles I made impressions in it while it was still wet. After it dried (about 24 hours) I sanded it and then highlighted the impressions with charcoal. After that I did several acrylic washes in various colors ending with a gold wash. Then added a bit more charcoal. It's quite fun to do! Adriayna has an 8x8 canvas I did using the same process. Thanks for asking!

Sorry if I am being antsy! I'm going to the post office tomorrow and I'd like to ship it all out at the same time if I could. :D

Meran you are so subtle! :)
Amerasu, Sandra and Katilady I will be watching for your cards.

Katilady, Shoreart and Sandra may need to make more cards. :) You three are in big demand!

Thanks for the fast reply Morning star (and to the rest who helped out)!... Sorry if I was getting anxious, I think I had too much caffeine today. :twitcy: However, I have them all packed up and ready to go out tomorrow. I sure hope I did everything right. THIS IS EXCITING!!!!!!!! MY FIRST SWAP!!!!!! WoOOoooOOooOO (yup... definitely caffeine!)
Now I'm off to work on the black and white swap! This is so much fun.
PS - I have a general swap question. How do you determine which cards go to whom? Or is it all just a random pick thing?
morning star
05-05-2009, 01:10 PM
Sandra, how's the buzz today? :) I'm glad the address thing worked out. I didn't get a chance to check messages yesterday until late. Sorry to keep you in that buzzed suspense so long but it sounds like others jumped in ....I'm glad.
This is my first time hosting a swap here. (I've hosted at AFA)
I imagine this will be quite different. There I would swap like quality and talent.
Since everyone's work here has both those qualities I imagine it will be more random.
You can post your wishes for a particular card as some people aleready have (don't worry Meran, I won't name names ;) ) Since the new people will be in high demand I probably won't be able to make every wish come true but you can try it.
I do accept bribes :D

05-06-2009, 03:42 AM
Aha! I knew there was a method to the madness. :D
Today has been very good. I actually ended up working on a large scratchboard piece tonight that I had been putting off for a while. I hate leaving things unfinished so now I'm determined to see this one done. I think have about two more nights of hard work on it and it should be done. I'm wanting to enter it into an exhibition.
One day I hope to host a swap too! It sounds like a little bit of hard work and a whole lot of fun. Oh, by the way, I got my cards for this swap sent off this morning. Will you let everyone know when the cards arrive?
shoreart
05-06-2009, 12:45 PM

Glad to hear it!!! It's always a little nerve wracking for me when I send original art in the mail. It's something you can never really replace.
I hope I did OK on packing it up and that I didn't miss any important steps!
morning star
05-09-2009, 01:23 PM
Sandra you did great on packing and all the steps.
You probably overdid it. Which of course is NOT a problem.
I've found that regular business size envelopes work fine and cost a lot less than the bubble mailers to send. The problem I've seen is when people use a lot of embellishments or mail the cards loose in the envelope so that they all slide to one end of the envelope and then they get messed up by the post office demon machines. If you tape them to a piece of paper so that they stay in place they come thru just fine. So it cost $.42 rather than $1.34, actually double that ($.84 vs. $2.68) because you have to pay again to return them. But if money is not a consideration who cares. I mailed all of my first ones in bubble envelopes too. I kept reading all these things about using good quality envelopes because the cheap ones tear to easy etc. so I was over cautious. Then the cost of mailing was getting to crazy as I entered a lot more swaps.

Oh, I know when something of mine is just barely par and when it's not :D.... Mostly is just barely. I have high standards; I'm always trying, and barely making it. Even when I think I might be there, I always know what could have been done better. And I wish to high heaven that I could reproduce the good ones! Most times, I'd be hard put to tell you just how I did something.. I'm working on that part.
But thanks!

I've never been anyone's first i-trader before :)
amyfaerie at the risk of offending you I am going to ask the following question.
Is there any one of you that does not want cards that have the words slut, whore, bitch etc. on them? I know there are some of you out there and would hate to have you get one of amyfaerie's awesome cards. It would be wasted on you. I'm sure there are a bunch of us that would love your cards and appreciate them. Right Katilady? I was surprised to read a thread a while back where people were offended by nudes. I had been sending in copies of Degas' and Renoir nudes that I thought were really great. I almost hated to send them in. The idea of one of these people getting one of my awesome nudes and "getting rid of it" made me sad.
If you would be offended PM me or if you like them PM me too.
katilady you only get one! :)
I really hope you aren't offended amyfaerie.

This is my first swap here and I am really nervous!!! Being accepted on this site is really a pleasure and an honor to me because I get to see everyday the amazing cards that you all create!!! I feel sorta a loner here because of the type art that I create so I hope whomever receives my cards with a swap like this, is happy with them because they are not handdrawn.........I did my better work and tried really hard to make them something I would be proud of..................I know whatever I receive in return will make me feel very special and honored that I was accepted on this site...............

I know most of us would be thrilled to have some of your fiber or collage work Monarch. But I know what you mean about hoping people like it even if it's not drawn. I feel that way too. The cool thing is, I bet most of the people who joined this swap did so because they wanted a variety of returns. :)

I've always wanted one of amy's slut and whore cards! I hope you sent one to me :) My collection is wholesome for the most part, lol... which is weird because I'm not.

I actually resemble my avatar, Kati! haha and I didn't even realize it! Ackkkk I'm a narcissistic (sp?) artist!
OH and I received my cards today! WOW WOW WOW WOW
Many thanks to the very beautiful work by Katilady, Morning Star and Monarch. Hugs to all of you and your talent amazes me. Very, very inspiring.

Amerasu, you snooze you loose :)
You had to tell me sooner that you wanted one. I do pay attention to what people say they like and PMed requests when possible for future reference
So my avatar is blank, I thought I added one but evidently I didn't and have never gone back to do it. What does that say about me?

I got Amy's Loose Bitch.. Hahaha! well, I USED to be, kinda.. :D
and one of Sandra Willard's dreamy geometric tree landscapes.. love that style too, and both of those are new artists for me (which is what my dream request was!) Oh, and not to be left out, I got another new artist, Golden Orbs by Katilady.. nice colors, simple yet very successful composition.. is this crayon Katilady?
all very cool cards. I just hope y'all are as pleased with mine as I am with yours!
points later, still.. I'm cleaning the kitchen, baking GF bread and cookies, preparing for the heating duct install, (still gotta clear the attic, which means organize it when I place it better, James sucks at organization.. he just shoves it up there, know what I mean? ;)) AND there's lots of stuff in the driveway,..
we're leaving Thurs. I'll put the info on my About Meran thread...

So, I'm officially giving points today.. :D
yes, I do like the modelling paste card.. nice color balance and texture.. mine always look plaster-like. I'll be studying yours, Kati.
Since I'm giving points out like crazy, Morning Star, your point may need to be awarded tomorrow-ly. The rep points should be fine tho!
