Oh, I have so many cards to do and so many favorite artists, but I can't pass up the chance to have some interpretations of Wassily Kandinsky. Sign me up!

OriginalYouth
08-08-2007, 03:44 PM
ABi, you are so strong! C'mon girl! Show those lurkers how it's done. Kandinsky, group 1 (cause I know Dana will be excited to do some swirls in there for ya).

abi
08-08-2007, 03:49 PM
I forgot a link to his work, I would also like to specify his work specifically after 1920.

http://www.richardtaylor.co.uk/kandinsky/ - This one has his work by decade.

Kandinsky= yummy. So wait...does each person pick an artist? Or how does that work?

leahfelicity
08-08-2007, 04:14 PM
What the hay -- sign me up! I never shy way from a challenge!

I'd like mine to be in the style of James Christensen (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=kd8&q=james+christensen&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi) (link to google image search of his work). I especially prefer the stuff-in-profile heavily-patterned with-fish work. ;)

abi

Swaggertoes, there is a section in the FAQ section (look up and to the second from the left on the green control bar) about PAT's (Pick A Theme). But basically everyone picks a artist (for this swap, many times it is just a theme). You get put in a group (you can also request a group if there is still room). You have an artist you like and everyone else makes a card in the style of that artist (or copy that artist, or take a mannerism of that artist) and you get those back. You in turn make one of each of the other artists listed in your group to be sent back to the person who requested that artist. For instance I want kandinsky, so everyone else will make a kandinsky and I will not because I will be making what everyone else's artist is. Does this make sense or have I just mucked the whole thing up?

Amerasu
08-08-2007, 04:38 PM
Ok, I know I'm going to sign up anyway so I might as well do it now.

I'll go with Stephen Yau (Dreamland series)

Can I grab the last Group 1 slot? I'd like to attempt the three artists mentioned and I'll figure out whatever Dana throws my way.

My artist forthcoming; have to think on it a bit.

Swaggertoes
08-08-2007, 04:57 PM
OH HELL...sign me up. Poke me in the eye. lol

I figure...if everyone is already picking an artist...and the style/subject is laid out, it shant be too hard, right!? lol. If all else fails, I can do a piece "after" the person.

And yes Abi, that made perfect sense!

And I have to decide an artist...mmmmmm. Let me think about it.

Ninnerfish
08-08-2007, 04:57 PM
Sign me up! I'll be brave and hope I can do justice to whoever else joins my group. I think my artist will be Alphonse Mucha. I have to work now, so I'll post the link tonight when I get home.

OK, this might be a challenge, but my fav. artist right now is Odilon Redon.

I just can't think of anyone else I want to see done as badly. ^_^

http://moma.org/exhibitions/2005/redon/redon.html

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UIjkMTpgto (this vid has lots of his work you can't see anywhere else that I have found. I saved it, it rawks!)

His later pastels with the god-like color and foral type pattern are my favs. *drool* But Cactus man, and the Noirs are nice too!

OriginalYouth
08-08-2007, 06:47 PM
Yikes! I took a break to make a mixed media collage tute for this site and clean house and you guys all got the cajones to join the swap! I'll update in a sec....

ETA: okay, list updated! Great artists represented and chosen. Those who haven't chosen an artist have 24 hours to do so, pretty please. Also, if you want to provide more than 1 link, that's cool, I will just link YOUR post so you can put all the links in one place. Click on Abi's link if you need clarification. IF you want to add more links later, just add them to that SAME post, then they'll all be in the same spot.

Ready set go. ;)

Oh yeah, I joined group 2. Van Dongen's work is my current fave, I just 'discovered' it 2 months ago and am in a state of adoration. Here's one of his 'Gypsy' that I did with Crayola crayons only:
146 Isn't she sweet? The link to the original is in that first post above. His 'big eyed' girls are the BEST!

Leah, I'm confused about which sort of his paintings you like! In profile? Side view, yes? Patterned with fish is the confusing part. What do you mean by that? I'm not seeing fish patterns! I might not be looking hard enough of course so please help me out here :)

And as a departure from the human form, let's try Stuart Davis. He's always been one of my faves.

did that make sense? lol

I'll go with Stephen Yau (Dreamland series)

I have seen so many great links on this site, to artists I never would have been exposed to otherwise. Is there a way we could have an inspirational reference "library" somewhere here without taking up too much room? No personal posts, just our links to these (quality) sites so that they are all in one place.

Either his Victory Gals series or Filling Valhalla Alphabet series would be great....

Why don't you just leave it open? You've got a sign up date of September 15th so that leaves plenty of time for people to decide if they want to join over the next month. The cards aren't due for a while either so you never know... it might fill up in a couple of weeks :)

Ok so here is my last card for the group 1 swap. This is the one for PB, it is an interpretation of Cassandra Barney's work.

Ninnerfish's Mucha is done. *sigh* I went through hell! First I did a drawing on w/c paper, but my brushes were all big...so scraped it...then I draw it out on pink paper, scraped that because I found some peach...then I drew it on the peach, and started coloring with colored pencils and realized...OMG, I drew on the rough side...the wrong side....

Hell with it, I worked with that side anyway. LOL. Hope you like it Ninner...blood sweat and tears in that one. :D

Those are a bit too small...Just write it neatly on a piece of paper if you don't have a sticky one, I'll put it on there. :)

I got 2 cards done last night the Redon and the Myers, I'll put them in the gallery now.

It's 4:00 a.m. and I have been making cards like a madwoman all night. Sometimes you really get into the zone, ya know? And when it's going well, you just don't wanna stop, even for sleep. Good thing it's Sunday and I can sleep in.

Anyhoos, here are my four cards. I love making art cards because it lets me try new things I'd probably not try on my own. I'm really pleased with these but especially Amerasu's hill full of houses, which is mostly acrylic using a drybrush technique. A very cool effect!

Sarah, these will go postal on Monday.

Okey doke, I finished one for Artyiagirl today.

Please tell me if you like it. It's a tad crooked...*sigh* because I still can't cut a straight line, even with a cutter.

I think it's amazing. I saw it right away in the gallery and was like *GASP* -- i hope its for me. And yeah it is!!! Thank you. I think you did a great job capturing the style. Yay, I'm glad you likies Arty.

I just dropped in to admit I am madly in love with GC Meyer's work. I'm whole heartedly, madly obsessed with the color use, simplicity, and intensity of his/her work. I'm jealous..and I'm pining for an original...it just makes me wet my pants with joy.

I've started, :D
Catsavannah's Stuart Davis is done, in acrylics; I picked his Skyline and made it into Portland Cubed (has a 3 instead of the word 'cubed' but I don't know how to do that here) using Portland's skyline. twas fun.
And I've started Amy Brown.. will be using her Violet Fairy, but put my niece's face in there.. she looks very fairlylike!
So, I did 6 cards today, and started another!
Cooled down this afternoon so couldn't keep working on the deck. If tomorrow is as warm as they're promising, I'll be doing deck stuff tomorrow.
So there! I'll be catching up easily! :P

I have a little question since I've never participated in this kind of swap. I am finally getting my act together and have finished one of my cards for this swap. I'm just not sure what the proceedure is for a swap of this nature.

Not exactly lazy. If it weren't for those pesky interruptions (job, husband, two dogs, a two-room remodel going on -and on, and on - and a house in chaos) I'd have made the deadline.

But, hey, life happens. :jiggy:

You're actually lucky!! 4 people have dropped out of my swap due Oct. 31st. I think a lot of people - including myself - got overenthralled with the great swaps here and discovered they were a tad overextended. Especially when we realized all the due dates were in October.

that's actually a very good idea. I'm excited to see mine, AND the sets my others will be part of.

Catsavannah, I understand the whole remodelling thing. We've been, and will be, remodelling for ages. I hate it. Everything is elsewhere, and I'm being procrastination Queen.. would rather do cards. I even didn't do taxes this year, yet...
I thought of dropping out of your swap but didn't want to join the exodus! So, I'm squeezing everything out, still doing a good job, (a great one would take 2 wks per card, and I'm not doing that!!!) .. I designed yours last night. Am working on them today. I'm pretty pleased with them! (this is a hard subject for me... masks)
and since it's OT on this thread, I ask forgiveness and will post all this, again, in the right place.

Me too. I have a lot of kudos to put out there... AND a scan for here. Tomorrow James is back at work, but the dentist did something, and now I have to call him also, tomorrow.
Even so, tomorrow is CARD DAY. I'm sick of 'no art' days. Art makes me feel good. So, I've declared tomorrow to be National Card Day, all y'all.
Do Some Cards. DSC.

It'll be my first swap.

Oh no! Even for Malaysia, that's been a long time. I have a high quality scan of the card I did and I can make a print to send you. Maybe the others can do the same? We all seem to scan at a nice resolution so I'm sure this is possible.

Oh NO! That's no good. They haven't come back to me, either... Hmmm.... this would be the first set of swap returns in the 100's I've sent that disappeared; hopefully they'll show up soon...

Just a question - what do I do for the iTrader ratings for this swap?

EraserQueen
12-24-2007, 02:09 AM
Charis, I am SO sorry you lost yours :( I myself lost around ten (maybe more??) PAT cards at ATCards.com, and out of everyone who made me a card, one person sent me a replacement (mainly because she had carved and made a print/stamp for the original card. I lost big time on that swap, but I would be willing to re-make your card, because that one person was nice to me :)

In the case of iTrader ratings..I just never left any.

I wasn't part of her group, but was planning on raking a card to Clep anyway. It was Waterhouse, yes?

clep
12-26-2007, 08:27 AM
I was going to give the iTrader ratings to everyone in the group plus OY as I'm positive it was none of your fault, but decided to wait till an 'official' decision was reached, one that follows the rules of the site. Are there any dealing specifically with this kind of situation?

EQ and Meran, that's really nice of you - Meran, what would you like me to do for you in return (I don't believe we've swapped before)?

Meran

Clep, I'd love anything you do. And please, wait till you get my card. It'll be fairly soon; I'm doing 'catchup' and you're in there. I will, of course, need your addy! Pls send by pm..
