Instructions
1. Make cards (3 for 3 or 6 for 6) following our CANADA theme. Canada is a vast country with vast differences from province to province and has a vast number of different people living together with a vast number of cultures all commingling together... so yeah, Canada is VAST... it might be easier to stick to silly Canadian stereotypes or symbols because of this. But for those of you who know Canada, it would be nice to see some thought put into the card's subject... why do you love your country?
2. When you are ready, PM me for my address, and then mail those prancing ponies out! The Due Date is July 1st. Canadians, please send a Self-Addressed, stamped, Envelope (SASE)... outside of Canada, a SAE or Address label would be good as would a US $1 bill to help cover cost of sending out returns (I'm so broke! LOL!). Please print neatly!! SERIOUSLY!
3. There is a possible 2 week grace period if necessary - but please make sure your cards are in on time as we don't want to hold up the returns!! I will send out returns to their new homes once all are in.

Here's my own concept. This was for a contest for the mascot for the Canada MLP Fair.

Please add my name. That mention of Hudson's Bay blankets really captured my interest. My mother used to make herself coats from those blankets and they were beauties! I once found an old HB blanket in the woods, brought it home, washed it, mended it and it now sits proudly in my closet ready for the guest bedroom!
I think Hudson's Bay is now owned by Americans.

I don't know if you want to do any PM inviting but here are the other Canadians on iATCs (that I know of that is) - Heaven Phoenix, Pixeldog, SADCAT, icekat, al fresco gal, silverhermit, canuckdesz, grrrdrules (not active here though)... and altermyworld who could be Canadianish since she lives here :)

Tabernacle! July 1st is far away.. cannot resist the temptation to join!
Is Vive le Québec libre ! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vive_le_Qu%C3%A9bec_libre_speech) considered borderline?.. I'll anyway have a French view on Quebec but probably less political!
Amerasu
03-09-2009, 08:04 PM
I know we have our issues with Quebec but my Canada includes them always. They're certainly disctinct and I don't have a problem supporting that. Plus Quebec City is one of my favourite vacation spots :)

03-09-2009, 10:42 PM
I visited Quebec in 1994 with hubby (that cannot be 15 years ago or?). We enjoyed Montreal Jazz Festival, then visited Quebec and Gaspesie. We also tried to see wales (dh was more enthouiast than myself) and both enjoyed Inuit art.... thanks for the opportunity to scan the pictures I took back then!

I havent been to Quebec other than sitting at the airport for five hours on a layover.. heh... I really wish to go sometime. I really really want to go to Newfoundland. I wish I had the money to travel more. I love seeing new places. Anyhow, Nfld and Quebec are the only canadian provinces I havent visited, so, I figure that's a pretty good feat being from a poor family and all.. haha. I would love to go across Canada and see everything before I die o.o!
Amerasu
03-10-2009, 03:01 PM
Newfoundland!! Me too! I so want to go there and tour around. It's been on my visit list for ages. We're hoping to do that this summer, funds pending. I've managed to visit BC, Alberta, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI but not the others or the Territories. I'd like to see the prairies one day too.
Tlouey
03-10-2009, 03:07 PM
LOL, not a lot to see in the praries... although, Cypress hills down near the bottom of Alberta and Saskatchewan are pretty.
There's this boat tour I want to take at Nfld. I think it is around $2000 a person and its for 5-7 days.. there's different ones. They take you around the coast to se whales and what not and to some tiny island that are uninhabited by humans to see elk and puffins and other animals. And you also go on a hike in their big park there in Nfld, I forget the name, but parts of it look like they used to be the bottom of the ocean or something. Newfoundland has some seriously surreal landscapes that I am dieing to see. I want to go up in the territories too! would be fab!!! TOo much to see, not enough money!
AnneY
03-10-2009, 07:55 PM
We visited an island with no human, in Gaspesie I think (gotcha, Bonaventure Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonaventure_Island) near Perce), and we watched the whales from Tadoussac (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tadoussac,_Quebec). We had booked an hotel room in Montreal and then just looked for a bed and breakfast from 6 pm...

We need to add loonie and toonie to our uniquely Canadian list, lol. I can't imagine anyone outside of Canada knowing what those words mean.

03-11-2009, 12:16 PM
HAHA this is true
AnneY... that sounds great!! I need to find some money so I can check out Quebec and Labrador and NewfoundLand... those are definitely places I waaaant to go to!
ambermarie
03-11-2009, 06:55 PM
Its kewl to hear about other places and sights in Canada. I grew up in Alaska and we were called 'Canada Light'. You could actually use Canadian money without worry. Was weird to come to the lower 48 and have that change. XD
My Canadian experiences have been when we've driven the Al-Can. I should visit the other side too someday. Never thought about it before. :)

Hey I know what Loonies and Toonies are! But then I've been to Canada so maybe that's cheating LOL.
I am looking forward to seeing other cards made for this swap! If I was gonna join, I'd do cards of Oat cakes, they were EVERYWHERE in Halifax  And I don't know anyone else but Canadians who will eat Gravy on their French fries *ick*
Amerasu
06-04-2009, 01:44 AM
And cheese too, Annie! It's Poutine, from Quebec. It's awesome! French fries, gravy and cheese curds. It will make you big and curvy and it tastes good while doing it too :)
EraserQueen
06-04-2009, 01:50 AM
LOL We have cheese curds here too! I LOVE them... But the real ones, not the stupid Hellavagood cheddar imitation curds LOL.
Tlouey
06-04-2009, 02:30 AM
Poutine is heaven! BUT even without the cheese curds, I prefer gravy on my fries to other condiments.... well, sometimes I choose vinegar... but I am NOT a ketchup on my fries kinda person! lol! ...oooh, there's a good Canadian flavor... KETCHUP CHIPS :p

06-04-2009, 02:37 AM
it'd be funny if someone did a series of suit jacket shaped ATCs all in different crazy colours and stripings like a collection of Don Cherry's wardrobe... maybe not for this swap, but just for fun, lol!

Don Cherry is a Canadian staple, Annie. He's the big mouth of ice hockey I suppose. He has a show on the CBC during period breaks in hockey. He's known for his ridiculous suits and huge mouth. He's also a right-wing blowhard I think, lol. :)
From wikipedia: "He is known for his outspoken manner, flamboyant dress, staunch patriotism, and populist rants against "left-wing pinkos" who seek to take the toughness out of hockey."

Don Cherry is definitely one of those parts of our Canadian 'culture' that can't really be explained... he needs to be experienced, lol!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcerBrY816c
LOL, in highschool my friend had his best hockey hits CD (lol, I dunno who came up with that idea) and we would listen to it while we cruised in my neon... hahaha... it was a compilation of songs thatd be good for playing at hockey games or drinking to or both (good songs too).. and in between it would have Don Cherry saying something really Don Cherryish...haha.

I think I need to do a Don cherry card, lol. I've seen some outrageous suits of his but I've never seen those beauties! What a nut that man is. He's so... I don't know...
Tlouey
06-04-2009, 01:57 PM
LOL... the best thing about Don Cherry is that you can turn off the tv when he gets too obnoxious... too bad the same can't be said for my FIL who has many of the same mannerisms and almost exact voice, hahaha... but none of the style, hah!
You can see, though, if you watch the old Don Cherry clips, that his suits just got more and more over the top over the years... I think he was known for being dressed in fancy suits and then they kind of had to live up to it more and more and then it just got out of control, haha. I remember one year Molson made collectable Don Cherry suit beer cans...

mwhahaha... awesome!!!
I'm all annoyed with myself! I was working on a flag ATC for this swap that had all the provincial flags and then a big Canada flag.. but somehow miscounted how many flags I had drawn in and ended up having no room for the Saskatchewan flag.. so now it is taking up the big Canada flag spot.. LOL! Now it looks like I favor Saskatchewan, HAR...

Received canuckdesz's cards... not sure if AnneY's are coming?
Tlouey, I think its the time of year. Perhaps in the fall?
Possibly... but to be shamefully honest, I think that's a fairly lame excuse as this was posted back in March. I'm sure over the last three months, people had time to make cards for this swap... and instead we only have two people sending in cards :/ Not trying to make anyone feel bad; it just doesn't seem fair to the people who do follow through. Heh, hopefully AnneY's cards are coming, otherwise we'll each be getting one of our cards back or double of someone's.

Aw no! That sucks! Sara, I am mailing your 7 Fish tomorrow, I can make some cards tonight..I Actually have a funny idea involving beer, Oat cakes and Don Cherry.... I'll make them anyways and you can decide if you want to keep them or swap them out :)
rkolig
07-01-2009, 08:41 PM
I does suck and it is lame. I know how it feels when swaps are small and people drop. And yeah, I've had it where people even had to get one of their own back.
I'm sorry, but I just never got done and I hate rushing stuff. I'm an incredibly slow card maker, but that's the way I am. If I rush, its total crap.
