I love hosting these swaps, so let's begin another one!

chiˇmeˇra also chiˇmaeˇra
An organism, organ, or part consisting of two or more tissues of different genetic composition, produced as a result of organ transplant, grafting, or genetic engineering.

For this swap, I am running 1 group of up to 7. Each participant will be drawing for all the others in their group. You will each select 2 or 3 different flora and/or fauna, and we shall be hybridising them! Thus all chimeras should end up different.

Deadline is the 1st August. I will PM you my address when you sign up. Please note, I live internationally and it can take up to two weeks for your letters to get to me. If I have not received from you by the 18th June you will receive a PM from me.

IRCs and hostess ATCs appreciated, but not compulsory. Please do not send papers or ephemera as I'm trying to cut down my supplies, not create more! I will cover postage.

So who's aboard?

1. LemurKat - kiwi + pohutakawa (flower) http://www.flickr.com/photos/webmink/1983528/
2. Theecoyote - coyote + diatoms and/or lichen

Kat, put me in group B.

Here's a nice flickr reference (close up) for the pohutakawa http://www.flickr.com/photos/webmink/1983528/

I will re-post with my theme as soon as I have decided on one.

Thank you Coyote, that's an awesome reference!

All I did was "google".
I wanted to know what the heck the thing looked like. They look very much like what we called "Bottle Brush". An ornamental common in Southern California.

Amerasu
04-20-2008, 12:57 AM
I'll go in one group, doesn't matter which. Horse and panda please.

TheeCoyote

My theme: coyote + diatoms and/or lichen.:D

Just wanted to make sure people had plenty of ready references to consult.:embarrassed:

That's alright Coyote ^^

Looks like there might just be the three of us :(

Why not send PMs to the people who particpated last time? They might not have seen this. Everyone is so busy lately it seems.

EraserQueen
04-22-2008, 01:51 PM
I'm sorry I SO VERY MUCH want to join, but promised myself not to sign up for anything due before July :( Will you have a fall or winter round??

TheeCoyote
04-23-2008, 12:03 AM
Weren't there people during the last round that had wanted to get in on the next one? Some of them posted to the last thread. I am not going to wail or gnash teeth if the due date has to be extended to accommodate other interested parties. I'd really like to see this swap go.

TheeCoyote
04-23-2008, 12:18 AM
I'm putting this link in here. I added it to the last thread, but it still applies.
http://spluch.blogspot.com/2007/05/weird-animals-created-using-photoshop.html

And, is anyone here in contact with Klawzie? Is she coming back, ever? Anyone know? I'd like to send her her card from last time. There is really no reason for me to hang onto it.

Amerasu
04-23-2008, 12:47 AM
I don't think Klawzie is coming back but never say never. She hasn't been online since Dec 3 so who knows. You could try emailing her via her profile. She did respond to one of my emails earlier this year so that might be worth a shot.

I don't mind waiting around for people to sign on either. I thought for sure Tablynn would be here.

Group B if there's still room please and I will go home and think about
my theme and let you know towards the end of the week.
Cheers, Margaret
If no room Group A please.

lemurkat
05-02-2008, 12:14 PM
Group B is fine! It'll likely be the only group there is. I'll slot you in.

I can extend the deadline, if you're interested, I only set it for June 23rd cos that's my birthday.

Kat

EraserQueen
06-07-2008, 01:29 AM
Kat if you can extend the deadline to the middle of July, I would LOVE to join :)

lemurkat
06-11-2008, 06:17 AM
Oops. I'd forgotten about the last part of this conversation and given this swap up for lost.

If everyone listed above is still keen, I will reset the deadline to August 1st, if not, I shall just close it down and trade individually with anyone who has made cards.

lemurkat

YEs and can someone please change the due date in the subject?

Also, they must be in ON TIME - I am leaving the coutnry on 12th August!

Kat

06-11-2008, 08:51 PM
Thank god Theecoyote emailed me as I had totally forgotten about this swap. For some reason I didn't write it in my book. I am still on line at the library but that is about to change. Please put me down for Lynx and Pixie combo. I am so sorry to keep everyone waiting. I am dealing with a lot of family stuff at the moment and I am quite scatterbrained
as a result. I see we also have a new deadline of Aug. 1. Whew! Thank you so much for the heads up . Cheers and Apologies, Margaret

This sounds like such a fun swap. I wish I could participate, but I have a feeling I'm already trying to do too many swaps. I can't wait to see what the cards look like though!

Here is Sal's card!

http://www.illustratedatcs.com/forum/gallery/file.php?n=7086&w=l

I hope you like it! I KNEW I wouldn't be able to pull off any 'realistic' interpretation, so I went for a Chinese watercolor style.

al fresco gal
06-28-2008, 03:43 AM

P.S. I finally have a computer! I finally have the luxury of reading threads and seeing

I've started one card though I hope to finish on the weekend and get them out to you ASAP. I'll send our Pokemon trade cards with these if that's ok. You can send the pokemon cards with these returns if you like.

al fresco gal
07-07-2008, 07:39 PM
I am just getting into the habit of reading the posts after having no time at the library to do this. Theecoyote, I would say there isn't much difference between a pixie and a fairy.
It's pretty muchly open to personal interpretation. I thought lynx and pixie had a nice ring.
All my drawings are done and I am painting today. They should be in the mail by Wed.

lemurkat
07-07-2008, 08:13 PM
I've put your pokemon in the mail already, Amerasu. I forgot about this swap!

Al Fresco Girl, I've used a lynx and my favourite pixie cat. It's very cute.

I am just going to be uber-strict on the deadline this time cos I'm away to Hawaii on the 12th August so they will need to be in the post before then! Yay, Hawaii, it's too cold here ^^

Well That's it! I'm done. Did them all this morning and just got out of my pj's before lunch.
Wish I could scan them but I don't have a printer/scanner yet. Any one have any recommendations. I bought a Mac.
I used cards base coated with black gesso and painted with acrylic except for Amerasu's
which was painted on gold gesso. I really like them. Hope you guys do too.
Now off to the post office! Cheers, Margaret

TheeCoyote
07-10-2008, 11:37 PM
Gold gesso? There's gold gesso?

EraserQueen
07-11-2008, 12:13 AM
I have a mac too Margaret! So Does Dana/Adriayna! Do you have a new one? All printer scanners are compatible with new Apple computers (new as in the last several years I believe..)

al fresco gal
07-11-2008, 03:55 AM
Re: the gold gesso. Yes there certainly is or at least was. I got it quite a long time ago
from Daniel Smith.
I have a new Mac, my first computer. I wanted something user friendly. The inks are my concern. I will have to look at printers with different cartridges for different colours but I know so little right now that I can barely hold a discussion. Wacky stuff is going to show me how to scan and post my images. I can hardly wait.

lemurkat
07-11-2008, 10:21 AM
I'll scan yours if you like, Margaret.

lemurkat
07-13-2008, 08:06 PM
Thanks you two! Btw, Margaret, I forgot to explain - the "pixie" part comes from the devon rex, a real "pixie-cat" in my opinion. Interestingly enough there is a breed of cat known as the "pixie-bob" which is a bobcat bred with a domestic cat.

Kat

al fresco gal
07-15-2008, 12:59 AM
I agree with you on the devon rex, Kat. I thought I had seen the Pixie-bob at a cat show but when I googled the image it wasn't the same cat. The one I saw was spotted and had
short reddish fur. A gorgeous cat that was a cross between something wild and domestic.
One of the cat people poopooed the idea and said it was just a genetic aberration. Wish i could remember the breed name. Stunning looking cat, quite large.
Thanks for the heads up on my wonderful card.

Sorry about your MIL and your trip. I'd be stressed out and depressed.
A re-draw is your call, but I think you sometimes are too critical of your own work, everything you do is charming. I am comfortable with whatever you decide. Really.

So, if you make another one, do I get both?http://www.richarddawkins.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

That pixie gave me trouble--I suck at people.

Yes, you do ^^

The Mother-in-law is recovering. Because she is living with a terminal illness (cancer), every setback is a cause for concern. She seems in good spirits - I cooked them dinner on tuesday night and she ate every mouthful ^^ She's up and about now, but still in a fair amount of pain.

I'm not depressed, disappointed yes, but I think I'd rather be here and spending quality time with her then on the far side of the world, worrying. I can always go to Hawaii next year. It also gives me an opportunity to house hunt as we have been contemplating moving for some time now, and the chance to clear our some of my accumulated junk.

Anyone want plastic pokemon toys?

TheeCoyote
08-19-2008, 10:46 PM
Blick (http://www.dickblick.com/zz112/40/). It's bark paper.
I know I have a sheet of the marble too, somewhere. I've been looking for it.

It is very soft and won't take erasing.

lemurkat
08-20-2008, 06:46 PM
I haven't received anything yet. Did you use the bark paper on me? If so, customs may have nabbed it.

Kat

EraserQueen
08-20-2008, 07:11 PM
I dunno how customs could have known it was bark paper..initially I thought maybe there was some elaborate mixed media concoction on the background to achieve that effect..

lemurkat
08-21-2008, 08:26 AM
They obviously didn't know - I got it today! They'd likely have cleared it anyhow but they didnt open the letter. Off to leave feedback now ^^

Kat

TheeCoyote
08-21-2008, 03:46 PM
Oh, heck I completely forgot about the bark paper thing. It made it through though. So, how do you guys get ahold of this type of thing? Every natural product can't come from within Australia, can it? How would they know, random searches, special equipment, dogs?

lemurkat
08-21-2008, 06:32 PM
I don't know how the postage service deals with it, theecoyote, but when you step off the plane from a foreign country you have to put down your bags so the dogs can sniff 'em over. If we want to get 'em through they've gotta be treated with radiation or something which is quite expensive. I don't think the dogs are quite sensitive enough to scent products that have been through quite a few steps of treatment, they didn't object to my carved cow horn from Madagascar (which I declared anyway) and ignored the chocolate. So maybe they more sniff for drugs? Because of the share bulk of letters received into NZ daily, I suspect unless yours was one of their randomly tested ones, you'd be 99% okay. Even my rabbit-hair lemur made it through ok (he got a little sticker saying he was "MAF approved").
